Today, I have come across the National Jewish Health site. Their home page states they are "the only facility in the world dedicated exclusively to groundbreaking medical research and treatment of patients with respiratory, cardiac, immune and related disorders."
Their website has an enormous amount of information. I have included a link below to direct you to their home page.

The American Family Physician (AFP) has an excellent article on VCD. This article explains clinical presentation, differential diagnoses, precipitating factors, diagnostic approaches and recommended treatments for both short term and long term.
Interestingly the article touches briefly on treatment of acute episodes of VCD with what they call "heliox". This is a mixture of helium and oxygen. The article claims this mixture reduces airway resistance. The AFP feels a trial of heliox may be appropriate due to the relatively low cost of this treatment, and because of only minimal negative side effects.
I found this very interesting. If you would like to read the complete article, I have included the link to this below:

An interesting article by Dr Glenn Yong, published by the Australian Medical Student Journal provides an interesting read. Titled: "Vocal cord dysfunction: A co-existent or alternative diagnosis in refractory asthma?".
I have included this article here because Dr Yong outlines the possible reasons for VCD, how diagnosing this condition has changed over the years, and he touches on various methods of treating the condition. I understand not all fellow sufferers may be interested in reading all this, however I know personally I feel it helps me to understand this condition a bit better. And in so doing, I feel better able to cope with this. If you are reading this, I hope you too are able to take something from this article that may benefit you in some way.
